Milestone

Today is a work holiday, which means an extra day to do a lot of writing. I just passed 25k words on my WIP, and it feels like a milestone of significance. Maybe because I wrote that much in 13 days. When I was writing my practice novel (i.e. first novel attempt) a year and a half ago, I could barely produce 2,000 words a week. Granted, I was in school and had more going on, but back then I never imagined I could be so productive that I'd write 25,000 words in less than two weeks. Those authors who claim they write for hours every day without fail? I get it now.

Well, Hello There

Think I'm ready to give the blog a little spit shine... new template, check... rearragement of sidebar, check... a few new links, delete some others, check.

About that writing....  I finished writing my first manuscript, MELT, last June. And realized I didn't have a strong enough antagonist, and the plot needed some work. I shelved it, not enthusiastic enough about it to dive in to the complete rewrite that it needed. I outlined a sci-fi novel, but kept stalling on the writing. It just didn't have the hook it needed.

In August, I started the final class of my Master's degree, and it was such a bear I didn't have the time or energy for much outside of work and school. I graduated in December, the hoopla of the holidays faded away, and suddenly I had this sense of freedom. Finally, FINALLY, time outside of work was my own.

I started outlining an idea for a YA paranormal trilogy on December 30, and began writing on January 5. And my, my how the publishing industry has changed since I started writing my first novel attempt back in July 2009! I'm no longer interested in looking for an agent and going the traditional route. Instead, I plan to self-publish my trilogy as ebooks.

And so the new adventure begins....
